On major holidays such as Thanksgiving, Easter and Christmas, and frequently on the last Sunday of the month, international visitors are invited to share in holiday festivities in local homes. Thanksgiving is our biggest hosting event of the year. Between 100 and 200 foreign guests -- families and individuals, students and professionals, from 40 or more countries -- arrive by train and car. Most disembark at the Westport train station, where perhaps 50 or more local host families eagerly await them. Committee members wave flags and ensure that locals and their guests find each other. After photos are snapped and friendships begin to form, the parking lot begins to empty as cars head for homes and holiday meals.
