Minutes 02/03/2010
February 3, 2010
Town Hall
Attendees: Barbara Jay, Mary Marquardt, Connie Greenfield, Anup Mody, Krista Richards-Mann, and Brock Hotaling.
The main topic discussed was the UN Peace Calendar.
We can use all the help we can get to distribute the 2010 United Nations Peace Calendar (Year of Youth), the centerpiece of Ruth’s legacy in terms of the printed word.
The calendars have been printed and the first run is being picked up today, with distribution to Hartford, NW Chapter, our chapter, and the upcoming conference in Hartford. They are full-color, full size posters suitable for hanging in classrooms or conference rooms and being used as a teaching and/or reference device.
We need a concise statement of how to most effectively use and display these calendars. The focus for this effort will be Anup Mody. Please e-mail your thoughts to him at

1. Distribution: Our chapter’s area of responsibility extends from Greenwich north to Danbury and east to Stratford. The calendars come in tubes of 50. We’d like to place these in as many schools, churches, NGOs/non-profits, and libraries as possible before mid-March, when their relevance starts to fade. The process is as follows – if you can take responsibility for distributing to area institutions as mentioned for quantities of 25 or 50, please contact me, as I will have a supply at my house. Ideally, you would pick up 50 in a tube, then get them out to schools and other worthy places in your area before March, and for each distribution, collect a name, phone number and e-mail address of the recipient so we can add them to our list. We’d also prefer a commitment from recipients that they display the calendar on a prominent wall and have their students/constituents visit our website to interact with the online version.
2. The “suggested donation” is $1 per calendar for individuals and $0.50 per calendar for educational and non-profit institutions. For any institution at all under a budget crunch, no donation would be expected, but we would like to get contact information from that organization in any case. Upon collecting the donations, please consolidate them and send the consolidated check to Norm Peccini, who is Division’s treasurer. An address will be provided to all who distribute.
3. Alexandria Faiz and I are working on making the online version more useful as a true resource, and our goal is to get everyone to submit directly online their suggestions for new entries for future calendars. This can be done easily. We will soon send out instructions for one-click access to submit calendar events, but this activity is less time-critical than distributing the poster calendars.
The next committee meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 3 at 10:00 in Town Hall, Room 110.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:30.
Respectfully submitted by Michaela MacColl, Secretary (based on notes by Brock Hotaling).
