Advocacy
* The project of the UNA this year isĀ Help Educate at Risk Orphans, which seeks to help the children of people with AIDS.
* Each year the chapter works to eliminate land mines by raising money for Adopt-a-Minefield held on Nov. 4, the Night of 1000 Dinners.
* Peace initiatives are constantly undertaken. Member Pauline Cantwell, Peace Action representative at the UN, keeps the Committee posted on local and international peace initiatives.
* A Women of Distinction in Connecticut award ceremony was held in 2003, honoring 140 women who have made a difference. IHC-FC collected nominations and biographies, planned the ceremony, and arranged for publication. This award was the brainchild of Ruth Steinkraus-Cohen, who felt that women who dedicated themselves to peace, justice and development through voluntary work should be recognized for their efforts. Previous award presentations were in 1967 and 1987.
