Hospitality

Entertaining international visitors in homes or public sites on major holidays and when they are passing through is a primary activity of IHC-FC.  Activities include:

*Hosting individuals and international groups on major holidays, such as Thanksgiving and Labor Day, and on the last Sunday of each month
*Welcoming over 300 United Nations visitors to Westport each year for jUNe Day - the last Saturday of June, which commemorates the signing of the UN Charter
*Planning programs related to professional interests for visitors sponsored by US and foreign governments
*Arranging study visits and hospitality for the UN Association of the United Kingdom
*Producing special concerts and cultural events in our towns and at the UN as part of our hospitality for international performers

Foreign visitors arrive through the auspices of the following organizations:

* U.S. State Department's  International Visitor Leadership Program.  When called upon, the IHC-FC organizes professional and cultural programs for foreign leaders including diplomats, journalists, government officials and the like. It has hosted Chinese journalists, counter-terrorist specialists, education ministers studying IT in schools, and Israeli and Arab mayors studying local government in the U.S.
* Through the Hospitality Committee for UN Delegates, Inc. and the UN Secretariat Staff Activities, United Nations personnel have an open invitation to visit on the last Sunday of each month as well as on holidays and June Day.
* College and university students from abroad who are studying in the U.S. visit  through the auspices of:
o Fulbright Scholar Program
o Metro International, an organization that helps foreign students learn about America
o International Institute of Education, Washington and New York
o Meridien International Center, Washington
o Dragon Foundation, Hong Kong
o African-American Institute, Washington D.C.
