jUNe Day 2009

Among the perennial highlights of IVC-CT's year are jUNe Day, held on the last Saturday of June in recognition of the signing of the UN Charter, and UN Day, on October 24th each year. On both days, the flags of all the member countries of the UN are flown on the Ruth Steinkraus-Cohen Memorial Bridge over the Saugatuck River. In 2009,  jUNe Day will be held for the 44th consecutive year, coinciding with the 64th anniversary of the ratification of the UN charter, bringing together nearly 400 United Nations employees and volunteers from all over Fairfield County. We appreciate anyone who can help in any way. Please contact Michaela MacColl, Chair of the jUNe Day event, at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. jUNe Day 2007

jUNe Day 2007, in its 42nd incarnation, received a gift of fine weather and over 300 United Nations guests, who experienced the hospitality of Westport on Saturday, June 30. Here is Josh Moritz's photo album of the day. Here is another photo album by Phyllis Groner.

The celebration honored the life of Anita Houston, who passed on in 2007 and was a true force in shaping international visitor and advocacy programs in Fairfield County. She was a pillar of the International Hospitality Committee for many years. Among the speakers at the celebration were featured guest Dr. Ibrahim Gambari, special advisor to Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon; Ambassador Joseph Verner Reed; Irving Stolberg, president of the Connecticut UNA division; and Gordon Joseloff, first selectman of Westport.
