Youth and Education

The Committee endeavors to work with students and faculty of schools and colleges as well as youth in general

* by promoting and coordinating contests and activities established by the national UNA-USA and NCIV
* by recruiting youth to be members of the Chapter
* by establishing internships and scholarships as the budget allow
* by publicizing UN advocacy and Citizen Diplomat initiatives as appropriate for youth participation.

Lifetime Learners

We had a speaking engagement with the Lifetime Learners (LLI) - at their Friday Lunch & Learn - at Norwalk Community College. This regular program is normally open only to LLI members, 900 of them currently.

As UN Day approached once again -- amidst war in Iraq, tyranny in Burma, and genocide in Africa -- the topic for our Lunch and Learn was appropriately: "UN Day: Why Should We Celebrate It?"

educationFairfield County’s secondary schools have won numerous competitions and awards at the national level, whether private, public, or parochial. The elementary and middle schools are second to none. Our program would begin with visits to top private and public schools, end with schools that are failing in the teaching of basic skills, and explore the implications of public education policy and state achievement standards on the education process and the children with government officials.
